New Year, New Energy at Northern Illinois Combat Club

As we step into a brand new year, we’re filled with excitement, gratitude, and momentum.

We’re proud to officially launch the NICCombat App, now available on both Google Play and the Apple App Store. This is a big step forward for our community and how we connect with you.

With the NICCombat App, members can:

  • Receive important gym updates and promotional announcements

Everything you need—right in your pocket.

New Class Alert: Gi Jiu-Jitsu

We’re excited to add Gi Jiu-Jitsu to our weekly schedule!

  • Thursdays | 5:00–6:00 PM

  • Taught by Coach Corey

This class is perfect for those looking to sharpen fundamentals, grips, control, and traditional gi-based techniques in a focused, supportive environment.

Big Coaching Updates (Yes, BIG!)

We have some major coaching news that we’re incredibly excited to share:

  • Coach Seth Swinehart is expanding his role at NICC and will now be taking over Thursday Muay Thai Kickboxing classes. This is HUGE for our program and our members—Coach Seth’s experience, passion, and leadership continue to elevate our striking programs.

  • Coach Corey is officially joining our Kids & Youth MMA Program on Wednesdays, where he will specialize in youth grappling and Jiu-Jitsu techniques.

  • Coach Shad will continue leading Striking Days and Combo Days, working alongside Coach Corey to deliver a well-rounded, high-quality youth program. Our youth athletes are in exceptional hands.

Giving Back: Community Partnership with Rosecrance Pathways

We’re honored to announce our partnership with the Pathways Program within Rosecrance. Through this collaboration, NICC will help support and serve at-risk youth in our community, providing structure, mentorship, and positive outlets through martial arts and fitness. This partnership means a great deal to us and reflects our commitment to making a real impact beyond the mats.

Fight Team Updates

Competition season is heating up, and our athletes are stepping up:

  • Robert Alumera will be competing in Madison on January 31—let’s show him some love and support!

  • On February 7th, eight NICC athletes will compete at The Rockies Show.

We’re proud of every athlete who puts in the work and represents NICC with heart and discipline.

Looking Ahead

The new year—and the Year of the Horse—is all about momentum, commitment, and growth. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor, a new member, or a parent supporting a young athlete, we’re grateful to have you as part of the NICC family.

Let’s make this year our strongest yet.
